When my friends and I got into martial arts films and eventually ninjas, we all dreamed of getting a sword like that in some form. We couldn't get real ones and the toy ones looked too much like toys.
I got my sword before I got my ninja outfit, which explains the cool "camo shirt with blue jeans" outfit I'm wearing. The sword I owned had a dull blade, but the tip was plenty sharp and was occasionally used to stab stuffed animals. I once dressed as a ninja for Halloween and walked into McDonalds wearing my full ninja suit (including the hood and mask) with that sword strapped to my back and nobody said a thing. The 80s were a different time!
