Hello!
Hi! My name is Rob, but you might know me as Flack, or maybe even Commodork. I was born in the early 1970s and grew up in the 1980s. I’m a writer, blogger, podcaster, and YouTuber. I do a lot of things in a lot of places, but here is where I’ll be sharing my nostalgia for all things retro. About five years I earned my master’s of professional writing degree from the University of Oklahoma. So far, this is what I’m doing with it.
On Ninjas and Neon I share a couple of short articles/newsletters each week with longer, free-form stories running on Fridays. I also post one or two notes a day. Follow me for fun.
Why Ninjas and Neon?
I’m all about the vibe. My office is bathed in blue and purple lights with retrowave flowing through my veins. I love just about everything from the 70s and 80s and this little hangout could have just as easily been called Breakdancing Care Bears or Motley Smurf. When In the 80s of my dreams I can see a ninja poster hanging on my wall, illuminated by a buzzy neon sign. That’s all.

I briefly experimented with turning on paid subscriptions, but found it to be a hassle and fruitless. If you feel absolutely compelled to leave me a tip, I’ve listed a couple of methods below. While financial support is always appreciated, all the content shared through Ninjas and Neon will always be free.

Is This All You Do?
Well, no. During the day I’m an IT guy (a computer ninja, if you will). In my free time I maintain a blog at RobOHara.com. I currently host two podcasts, You Don’t Know Flack and Sprite Castle, which you can find wherever you find podcasts. I’m pretty active on Twitter and Instagram and Bluesky and you can find links to those things here. I am infatuated with vanlife and run a site called BigRobsVan.com. I post vanlife videos as BigRobsVan on YouTube, and other gaming and retro content on my main YouTube channel, RobOHara. I’ve self-published three books and my goal for 2025 is to double that number.
It’s a lot to keep track of. If you want to go exploring, check out these link trees.
What’s most important to me is that right now, you’re here and I’m here. Let’s wrap black t-shirts around our heads and get nostalgic. Did I ever tell you about the time…
