You know, I don't think that's uncommon. I think with a lot of novelizations they fix problems the director either couldn't or wouldn't. In the novelization of Star Wars, Chewbacca gets a medal. :)
Or they go to press before re-shoots, the Pretty in Pink novelization had the original ending where Angie chooses Duckie. Test screening audiences hated that ending (correct) and it was quickly reshot before the film was released.
I was driving to a job interview in Napa on that Hwy 12 connection to Sonoma and found the derelict faux gas & sushi bar set on the roadside. Empty & abandoned and utterly bizarre. Wasn’t til a year later someone told it was from Howard the cluster.
For some reason, I had the novelization of Howard the Duck and I remember it being really funny, a lot funnier than the film.

The writer of the novelization mimicked the style of the comics, not the screenplay. It’s much better.
Not getting the tone right for a comic-based movie will kill it. I need to pick up that novelization.
my scalp hurts every time I see this photo! I can taste the Aqua Net.
I graduated high school in 1991 and you should see my yearbook. Half my senior class looked just like Lea Thompson in this movie.
despite all of the above, I still believe this flick is worth the watch
I still revisit it from time to time, too. Gotta look at the good and overlook the bad.
“…a day that will live - in infamy.”
Such a strange movie.
OMg, I use to be obsessed with this movie!!
Little pond hopper…

I would have moved into it. That place was awesome.
Make it cannon that he's the missing dad in ducktales, it's funny and besides what else is Disney gonna do with him?
Too bad. It was a GREAT comic. Not surprising it wasn’t done justice to. Just a shame.
They hyped this movie for a freaking month……it was terrible…..probably the worst movie she ever made….😅
Yeah those movie posters with a cigar coming out of an egg shell were just confusing.
Omg is that Marty McFlys mom?
I love that movie. It’s a crackup, no pun intended.
Totally ridiculous.
ducks with blue eyes.
My favorite Marvel character
I was there the day the car went off the bridge near my home town.
